Join in the West Penwith Embroidered Bees Project!
We are pleased to announce that the West Penwith Embroidered Bees Project will be returning next month!
The project, led by Vicky Harrison, is set up to create a huge embroidered collage of many of the 300 species of bees from the UK. The idea is to raise awareness and share knowledge about wild bees and the plants that benefit them. Later, we will be incorporating flowers from the Treneere Wildflower garden. The embroideries are made on joined shapes and will eventually be hand quilted.
This is an unfunded project so we ask where possible for people to bring embroidery threads in shades of yellow , orange, white, cream and black, and a small embroidery hoop . The embroidery can be made on an old white tablecloth scrap or other similar fabrics. We have a limited amount of these things available so nobody will miss out.
Don’t worry if you cannot draw or embroider; we will teach you how.
The finished embroidered project will be displayed to raise donations of money for Treneere Grows and other wildflower projects.
Vicky will be holding six workshops at The Salvation Army on Queen Street in Penzance on the following dates:
Friday 23 September
Friday 14 October
Friday 28 October
Friday 11 November
Friday 18 November
Friday 9 December
All workshops will begin at 10am and run until 12 noon.
Here is a short film so you can see how the embroidery is progressing:
