In October of 2021, WAC received very generous funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), via their local delivery partner, Community Led Local Development (CLLD), to investigate ways of securing WAC's future in uncertain times. The subsequently generated Community Small Grants report found that a new, eco-friendly community building that meets Cornwall Council's 2030 carbon-neutral targets, is the best way forward to secure our community hub's future.
With the help of CLLD, we managed to secure funding for a new community building through the ERDF, match-funded by Cornwall Council, who have gone above and beyond to ensure that we have everything we need to get this project off the ground.
Some unforeseen hiccups delayed our move back to Treneere, but the outpouring of love and support from the local and wider community, who welcomed us back with open arms in March of 2024, meant the world to us.
Our new building, the Treneere Community Hub stands tall, as a proud testament to all the hours of unpaid labour, pro bono advice, discounts, sweat, tears (no blood, luckily) that our volunteers, staff and local organisations have given us, to ensure that we were - against all odds - able to complete the building ourselves, with strengthened resolve and determination.
